Utilize information from direct handling skills during assessment and treatment to guide goal development and treatment progression using provided case studies. Assess client alignment, upright postural control, rib cage and pelvis positioning and the impact on client function using the video case study provided. Choose a specific treatment strategy related to motor planning, alignment, upright postural control, and/or unlock rib cage and pelvis to facilitate improved function and participation based on video case study analysis. Agenda

Description
Learn multidisciplinary and discipline specific assessment and treatment strategies based on the NeuroDevelopmental Treatment – Contemporary Practice Model (NDT-CPM) for children with ASD. Help the child with ASD progress in their motor skills for coordinated movement activities and speech and language development. Current research will be highlighted that supports the significant connection the cerebellum has to children with ASD and how that information can help with problem solving and treatment strategies needed with this population. Utilizing current evidence, participants will expand their depth of handling techniques while problem solving to improve function, communication and language for their pediatric client. Understanding of how specific handling can improve your client’s ability to gain function and participation will be embedded throughout the course. Handling will include alignment, upright postural control, unlocking the rib cage and pelvis to gain speech and improved body control. The format will be lecture, video case studies, facilitation demonstrations and discussions with opportunities for self-practice.
