Hip Fracture: What We Do Well and What We Can Do Better – An Interdisciplinary Clinical Perspective poses the questions: “Why is hip fracture such a devastating problem?” and “What are we doing well to treat this problem and what can we do better?” This course is a strong OT, PT and Orthopedic Surgeon collaboration. It uses a documentary film style and includes real patient videos, interviews with world-renowned orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation therapists. The hip fracture content addresses acute care through SNF and home care settings and provides evidence based evaluation and treatment ideas throughout. Join Dr. Molly Laflin as she takes you on a journey through the evidence based literature via interviews, demonstrations and patient care scenarios. You will be exposed to the most recent statistics and background information on causes and types of hip fractures and the most up to date evaluations and treatments. Listen to national experts and researchers as they share their perspectives and advice. Follow patient care trajectory from orthopedic surgeon through surgical videos, acute care physical and occupational therapy demonstrations, skilled nursing physical and occupational therapy, and finally to physical therapy practiced in the home. This course is clinically focused, uses real patients to demonstrate quality care at all levels of rehabilitation (acute to part B), and emphasizes what physical and occupational therapists can do to improve outcomes for our patients with hip fractures.
