Manual Physical Therapy Alliance

Format(s):   Live Seminars
Discipline(s):   Physical Therapy / Athletic Training
Contact Hours:   16
Registration Fee:   $525.00

Objectives
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
Correctly demonstration manual intervention for the correction of the lateral shift in standing and recumbent postures with and without strap.
Correct demonstration of using lumbopelvic harness integration for discogenic and spondylytic radiculopathy with and without lateral shift.
Correctly define the neural container and its components.
Correctly identify the components of a relevant vs. non-relevant shift.
Correctly demonstrate neuromuscular re-education with use of PNF and other facilitatory interventions of the lumbopelvic and hip region with and without mobilization strap.
In a given patient presentation, be able to defend placement of patient within a treatment based classification system and initial intervention selection.

Target Audience
Licensed PT, MD, DO or NMD or a student enrolled in a PT, MD, DO or NMD program. Please bring proof of licensure or student ID to class.
*Recommended participants complete IMT-1 and IMT-2 prior to this course, otherwise, participants with extensive manual therapy training will be required to complete an abbreviated online to create a common language and foundations to build upon.

Confirmation Notes
This course is currently being evaluated by the ProCert approval process for continuing education credit.
*All MD, DO and NMD students are eligible to attend. PT students must be in their 2nd or 3rd year of study or attend with a Professor, CI, or PT mentor.
*To qualify for the Clinical instructor rate you must be APTA Credentialed and provide the name of the school you primarily mentor for.
*To qualify for new graduate rate, you must have graduated within the last 24 months of the date of the course.

Agenda
8 – 5 each day (NOTE: UK courses run from 9 am – 5 pm)
Registration: 7:30 – 8:00 Day #1 (NOTE: UK course registration starts at 8:30 Day #1)

Description
This course will provide comprehensive assessment and treatment strategies for patients that present with complex cervical, cervicothoracic, lumbar, and lumbosacral spine conditions. Class format is 80% lab with rich hands-on learning that is immersed in case presentation format designed to break down how to effectively and efficiently assess and treat complex spinal conditions.
The clinical reasoning model that is embedded in this class will clearly present how to differentiate:
Cervical radiculopathies from shoulder dysfunction.
Cervical disc derangements with cervical lateral shift and common radiculopathies.
Cervical high-low syndrome and the underlying positional component/muscle imbalance that drives cervical radiculopathy.
Differentiating chronic radiculopathic presentations from peripheral dysfunction.
Cervicothoracic dysfunction and cervicogenic dizziness.
Management of the patient with chronic radiculopathy and shoulder dysfunction – how to know when to treat the shoulder in the presence of radiculopathy.
Lumbar spine from hip pathologies and how to deliver effective treatment in patients presenting with radiculopathy that is driven by hip dysfunction vs. lumbar dysfunction.
Lumbar disc derangements with and without lateral shift deformity.
Relevant vs. irrelevant shift deformities and when to treat in patients presenting with chronic spondylytic radiculopathy.
Spondylytic radiculopathy with an underlying adverse neural tension component; Stenotic lumbar spine pathologies with bilateral lower extremity neurogenic pain.
Other key topics will address a comprehensive understanding of the neural container including concepts such as the longitudinal neural axis, the transverse neural axis, and their implications on adverse neural tension. Understanding, respecting, and treating these variables often is an essential component that will result in significant improvement in complex patient outcomes. Online Evidence-Based Modules Include: Full upper quadrant examination with differential diagnosis of cervical spine vs. shoulder vs. neural container involvement. Full lower quadrant examination with differential diagnosis of l-spine vs. hip vs. SIJ vs. neural container involvement A literature review of treatment of complex spine conditions, lateral shifts, and radiculopathies. Defining the neural container with common pattern presentations and movement compensations seen in patients. Case Presentation with Differential Diagnosis & Treatment #1 Case Presentation with Differential Diagnosis & Treatment#2 *Online modules include built-in assessments. Participants must pass with a score of 75% or better to qualify for certification.* A 100+ page manual with all lectures and detailed technique descriptions will be provided at the course to participants $525.00 for US Based Courses (Click here to see current discounts, offerings and to register) (New Grad Discount: $325; Student Discount: $175) $455.00 (£350.00) for UK Based Courses (Click here to see current discounts, offerings and to register) 8 – 5 each day (NOTE: UK courses run from 9 am – 5 pm)
