Objectives
Course Goals:This course is intended to instruct the professional through a study of clinical and outcome assessments. Professional Objectives:At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to: List OASIS items that are tied to Publicly Reported Outcomes; identify how diagnosis specific musculoskeletal deficits influence scoring of OASIS at SOC Recognize the relevance of falls risk in determining OASIS SOC accuracy and how decreasing falls risk can improve outcomes at DC. Identify the typical clinical presentation of home care rehab patients with THA, hip fracture with ORIF, TKA, vertebral compression fractures, lumbar spine surgery patients and how to focus SOC and care planning for best clinical and OASIS outcomes. Cite evidence-based treatment methods to maximize clinical and OASIS outcomes and recognize how to incorporate these into patient care. Recognize the importance of preventing hospital readmission; cite the common reason(s) for readmission per diagnosis and how to possibly decrease readmission rates. Criteria for Completion:A score of 70% or more is considered passing. Scores of less than 70% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved.

Agenda

Description
Home Care present many unique challenges for the rehab clinician. On of the biggest challenges is integrating the demands of Outcome Assessment Information Set (OASIS) data collection into the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic patients, especially now as both agencies and individual clinicians are being increasingly held accountable for improving OASIS outcomes. This course is meant to make life easier for home care clinicians. It begins by by looking at how the typical clinical presentation of home care orthopedic patients lines up with varying OASIS items. The diagnoses covered include Total Hip Arthroplasy (THA), hip fracture with open reduction, internal fixation (ORIF), Total Knee Arthroplasy (TKA), vertebral compression fractures, lumbar stenosis, post-op lumbar decompression/fusion. This course teaches healthcare professionals to use the best objective tests and measures to accurately establish patient status at standard of care (SOC,) to outline the best evidence based treatment protocols to maximally improve the patient;s status, and to establish discharge timing and criteria to drive OASIS outcome improvement. Clinicians who do not complete OASIS assessments will benefit greatly from this course as it provides a framework for how the care provided by all caregivers can and should be directed to yield best outcomes. This Seminar-on-Demand is 4 contact hours in length (check your state's approval status in the state specific course catalog for your profession).
