This is an exciting course which offers therapists an opportunity to expand their care of hand injuries with new depth and confidence! A broad range of topics are covered which will benefit both experienced therapists and those just entering the field. The multiple tissue effects of immobilization during healing versus movement and stress are compared and discussed. This is followed by an analysis of current therapeutic techniques for mobilizing tissues. The next topic is the use of Manual Edema Mobilization techniques (MEM) for the management of edema resulting from hand trauma. On Day two, complex injuries to the hand are explored with lively group discussion, case studies, and problem solving. Topics on day two include care of grafts and flaps, free tissue transfer, care of revascularizations, replants and mutilating injuries. Participants are invited to share cases from their own practice. No prerequisites for this course!
