Description

Disordered by the New & Changing Disorders?
It's here—the first major revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM®) in more than 30 years. With the new DSM-5®, all mental health practitioners face major changes to the organizational structure and diagnostic criteria formerly used with DSM-IV-TR®; add the accompanying ICD-10-CM (to be implemented October 2015) to the mix and you can quickly find yourself confused and exasperated.

Don't be disoriented by these sweeping changes. Let Jeffrey Ashby, PhD, ABPP, a mental health clinician with 20 years of experience and research, be your guide as you identify the changes from DSM-IV® to DSM-5®, including the creation of new diagnoses and categories, the consolidation of some diagnoses, and the elimination of others. In addition, Dr. Ashby reviews the demise of multi-axial diagnosis, diagnosis-specific changes (e.g., criteria revisions), as well as broader, manual-wide changes (e.g., use of the dimensional assessment). To fully prepare you in your practice, Dr. Ashby also highlights the changes from ICD-9 to ICD-10, making complex changes seem simple.

As a result of this comprehensive workshop, you walk away with a familiarity with the new DSM-5® diagnostic system and comprehend the changes from the DSM-IV-TR®. A simple understanding of the changes is just the beginning, as everyone practices using the new diagnostic coding system and selected new criteria for disorders in ICD-10-CM with several case studies. Learn how changes to the DSM® and ICD impact patient and client care, and what modifications may be necessary to implement these revisions in your practice.
