MT-2: Essential Spinal Seminar – REMOTE LIVE Course 13.5 Live Hours + 16.3 Home Study Hours = 29.8 Total hours ; 3.0 CEUs Weekend course: 13.5 Live hours over 2 days Month long course: 3.5 Live hours one night/week over 4 weeks Course Description: May be taken as the first course in the MAPS series. An evidence-based introduction to the Maitland-Australian approach to orthopedic manual therapy (OMT), focusing on effective assessment and treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal disorders of the Spine. Includes all the same information as the MT-2 FULL COURSE, excluding the in-person supervised hands-on laboratory. For those who wish to advance to higher level courses or become a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT), completion of a 1-day Skills Check Lab is required as well - see brief description below. The required Home Study of 16.3 hours is completed online, at your own pace through MAPS Online Learning, which includes a 6.3-hour PowerPoint lecture presentation. Participants are presented with peer-reviewed published evidence supporting the mechanical, neurophysiological, immunological, and psychological mechanisms of action of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (OMT). As part of the live course preparation, evidence from recent Systematic Reviews and RCTs are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the approach, and specific conditions that respond to OMT. The major course modules for MT-2 Remote Live include: Lecture Overview and Introduction Mechanisms of Action of OMT Evidence for OMT Effectiveness Maitland Principles Subjective Examination & Physical Examination Clinical Applications: Evidence supporting the value of the techniques, conditions that they treat, and how to best incorporate them into your clinical practice Clinical Reasoning MT-2 CAD-VBI Testing Lots of interactive Q&A time with MAPS expert instructor (2+ hours) The Maitland-Australian approach is extremely patient-centric and focuses upon highly specific subjective & objective physical examination processes. Clinical Reasoning and constant reassessment are taught and emphasized. Methods of assessment and treatment are demonstrated during the live component of the course and a real-time patient assessment is demonstrated and analyzed. Techniques taught include: Mobilization & Manipulation Active Physiological Movements (APMs) Passive Physiological Movements (PPMs) Passive Accessory Movements (PAMs) Combination movements incorporating both osteokinematic (physiological) and arthrokinematic (accessory) movements Neurodynamic assessment Regions extensively covered include: Cervical, Thoracic (including rib articulations) and Lumbar spine. Neurodynamic assessments and treatment of the upper and lower limbs is included and integrated with the associated spinal regions. The hard-bound course manual includes detailed step-by-step instructions for each technique and more than 270 photographs. Over 900 references are provided. Course Schedule A blended online and live learning experience, in which the pre-course materials and additional home study are provided through MAPS Online Learning, in combination with a live two-day weekend seminar through our virtual classroom. The live component of the month-long course takes place one night each week through our virtual classroom for 4 consecutive weeks . Note: Exact time schedule below is subject to change.
