Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will: compare brain recovery and neuroplastic potential, through the different stages of infancy, childhood and young adulthood, to traditional service delivery models. describe the correlation between 2 distinct periods of abundant neuroplasticity and optimal therapy service delivery for cerebral palsy. identify the correlation between lifelong functional capacity and strategic intervention planning across early childhood to young adulthood for patients diagnosed with cerebral palsy. list 4 main therapeutic intervention categories, in the correct order of application, for treatment of cerebral palsy. demonstrate the correct, sequential intervention method based on one of their own cases. list the 3 reasons for using novelty, sensory, auditory and visual substitution therapeutically to improve functional capacity. describe 3 different coaching strategies for empowering child and family participation during therapy and beyond. prepare a home program that embeds all recommended therapeutic interventions into the child and family’s daily life (based on a virtual treatment demonstration).

Agenda
4-part virtual course consists of four 4-hour live webinars via Zoom. Session 1: 3 ¾ hours of direct instruction (6pm-10pm EST) The stage is set for the intensive KEYtoCP™ systematic model by discussing neuroplasticity and recovery potential for children with CP. The systematic model and rationale for this intensive program will be discussed. 6:00 – 6:15 Introduction/overview 6:15 – 7:00 Lecture: Human neuroplasticity and recovery potential in CP 7:00 – 7:45 Group project: Introductions 7:45 – 8:00 Break 8:00 – 9:30 Lecture: The KEYtoCP™ Model/ Parent and Child Coaching, in person intensives and virtual intensives 9:30 – 10:00 Case presentations Session 2: 3 ¾ hours of direct instruction (6pm-10pm EST) The 4 pillars of the KEYtoCP™ intensive model are covered using case description before discussing intervention ideas that take advantage of substitution, neuroplasticity and novelty. We end the session with discussion of a home project for the course participants. 6:00 – 7:15 Alignment 7:15 – 8:15 Awareness, Activation, Strength 8:15 – 8:30 Break 8:30 – 9:30 Novelty & “outside the box” interventions 9:30 – 10:00 Course participants will be given instructions for creating a case of one of their own clients using all or parts of the KEYtoCP™ Model. Session 3: 3 ¾ hours of direct instruction (6pm-10pm EST) Several participants’ cases will be presented and discussed. We discuss how we use the KEYtoCP™ model within our multidisciplinary team and how we prepare to embed our proposed program into the child’s daily life. During the pandemic, Pia Stampe and her clinic have started providing virtual intensives and she will discuss the benefits and challenges of this type of intensive. 6:00 – 7:30 Home project case presentation/discussion/coaching by instructor 7:30 – 8:00 Multidisciplinary work in clinic and in-home teams/virtually including case presentations 8:00 – 8:15 Break 8:15 – 9:30 Embedding clinic intensives to home AND providing virtual intensives using the KEYtoCP™ model 9:30 – 10:00 Group project about embedding interventions into the child’s home environment Session 4: 3 ¾ hours of direct instruction (6pm-10pm EST) Apply the KEYtoCP™ model to two different live teletherapy cases. Course participants will have ample time to process and discuss each case. 6:00- 7:00 Teletherapy# 1 with child/family/team 7:00 – 8:00 Processing/discussing Teletherapy #1 8:00- 8:15 Break 8:15-9:15 Teletherapy #2 with child/family/team 9:15 –10:00 Processing/discussing Teletherapy #2/ Course wrap up
