Description
Dementia is an increasingly important public health concern, and apart from deficits in cognition and behavior, deficits in balance, gait, and movement coordination are also found in people with dementia and cognitive impairment. The goal of this CEU course is to summarize the evidence on the effects of exercise on physical functioning and quality of life in individuals with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. This course will begin with a systematic overview of research studies regarding the effects of exercise on improving balance, strength, mobility, and endurance in individuals with dementia, and it will take a closer look into some of the different training protocols that are found in the research. Then we will delve into a specific 12 week high-intensity exercise program and view the effects on balance and levels of agitation in residents with dementia in a skilled care facility. We will then take a closer look at the experiences and views that participants with dementia had after a high-intensity functional exercise program, as well as the level of safety, adherence, and competency among participants. Finally, we will view the outcomes of a self-efficacy report on individuals who were a part of a high-intensity exercise program, and delve into the factors that affected the level of participation in a high level activity program.
You don't need to pay for an exam until AFTER you pass it.
