Objectives

By the end of the seminar the participant will be able to
list 2 key elements of the “kinetic link model” for patients diagnosed with upper extremity conditions.
identify 5 descriptors that help predict patterns of muscle recruitment for patients diagnosed with upper extremity conditions.
state 3 factors that contribute to dysfunctional movement patterns for patients diagnosed with upper extremity conditions.
describe the musculoskeletal impact on the UE when presented with a structural feature of the arms, neck or torso for patients diagnosed with upper extremity conditions.
identify at least 4 upper quadrant muscle length tests for patients diagnosed with upper extremity conditions.
identify at least 6 scapular dysfunctions for patients diagnosed with upper extremity conditions.
identify 3 muscle re-education strategies to help normalize scapular movement for patients diagnosed with upper extremity conditions.
design an upper extremity exercise that challenges the trunk in 3 planes for patients diagnosed with upper extremity conditions.

Description

This advanced course takes the participants through a paradigm shift in how they look at common UE conditions. Through lecture and lab, it will review current evidence & challenge clinical reasoning related to treatment of UE conditions. The course will expand evaluation & treatment skills using sound anatomical & kinesiological principles. Difficult concepts regarding the kinetic chain are broken down and made clear. This course is designed for the experienced therapist.
During hands-on lab sessions, course instructor(s) will evaluate each participant’s techniques/skills learned to determine proficiency for course completion. Post test at end of course will assess your new knowledge.
