DIN-2: Electrical & Perineural Needling Approaches

Manual Physical Therapy Alliance

Format(s):   Live Seminars
Discipline(s):   Physical Therapy / Athletic Training
Contact Hours:   27
Registration Fee:   $1294

Objectives
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
List 5 indications to performing electrical dynamic integrative needling (DIN) in a given patient population.
List 5 contraindications to performing electrical-DIN in a given patient population.
Correctly determine the primary pain mechanism driving the presentation of a given patient case.
Correctly explain the current theoretical mechanisms of electrical-DIN in regards to pain neurosciences.
Correctly justify the use of electrical-DIN in a given patient presentation.

Target Audience
Licensed PT, MD, DO, DC or NMD or a student enrolled in a PT, MD, DO, DC or NMD program. Please bring proof of licensure or student ID to class.

Confirmation Notes
*All MD, DO and NMD students are eligible to attend. PT students must be in their 2nd or 3rd year of study or attend with a Professor, CI, or PT mentor.
*DIN-1 is a prerequisite to DIN-2 unless you have previous needling experience and training. If you have taken at least 24 hours of needling training from a reputable organization accredited by a national or state professional organization or body, you may attend DIN-2 without taking DIN-1.

Description
Physical therapists that complete DIN 1 & 2 and become certified in Dynamic Integrative Needling (Cert. DIN) qualify for one free year of membership to the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in the UK.
This 27-hour course will be supplemented with online modules strategically developed to maximize use of the three-day live instruction. DIN-2 is a conditions-driven course instructing participants on how to incorporate electrical & perineural needling to address a clinically dysfunctional neuromusculoskeletal patient presentation. Emphasis will be placed on how to treat the sensitized peripheral and central nervous systems. Participants will be exposed to current evidence-informed theoretical models that will reconcile physiologic tissue response with pain neuroscience and implement electrical dynamic integrative needling with instructional movement strategies for patient reinforcement.
COURSE MODULES:
Safety & contraindications.
Mechanisms & evidence for electrical needling approaches.
Electrical needling dosage & parameters.
Mechanisms of perineural needling.
Evidence-based review of upper quadrant conditions.
Evidence-based review of lower quadrant conditions.

COMMON CONDITIONS COVERED IN THE COURSE WILL INCLUDE:
Cervical, thoracic, lumbar & sacral segmental electrical needling approaches, as well as segmental reasoning to address distal conditions.
Cervical & lumbar radiculopathic presentation.
Electrical needling strategies for chronic myofascial pain syndrome, with an emphasis on influencing the descending pain inhibitory system.
Headaches:
Cervicogenic, tension type and migraine needling management.
Shoulder:
Myofascial shoulder pain.
Tendinopathy.
Subacromial impingement.
Lateral & medial elbow pain approaches.
Wrist & hand:
De Quervain’s.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Osteoarthritis-mediated pain.
TFCC strategies.
Knee osteoarthritis strategies.
Achilles tendinopathy.
Plantar fascial pain syndrome.
Hip osteoarthritis & greater trochanteric pain syndrome.
Fascial/connective tissue needling for scars, hyperalgesia zones, and fibrosis.

*Online modules include built-in assessment. Participants must pass with a score of 75% or better to qualify for certification.*
A 100+ page manual is provided with all lectures and detailed needling intervention descriptions to course participants.
This course is currently being evaluated by the ProCert approval process for continuing education credit.
