This introductory webinar continues to expand the topic of home modifications by discussing who is involved in the home modification process and educating therapists about the assessment strategies involved in home modifications. Identification of what is defined as a “barrier” to the patient living safely in the home environment will be defined through discussion and video representation. Common physical barriers will be identified and the implication they will have on the patient. Therapists will also learn how to conduct a needs assessment to help patients who have difficulty accessing their own living environments due to a variety of barriers. The concept of person-environment fit will be described in the presentation. Identification of home assessment strategies will be provided and discussed, and how some commonly used “every day” assessments may give insight to home assessment problem identifications. This presentation will also address how to incorporate a comprehensive home evaluation and make recommendations for modifications as part of the Rehabilitation evaluation. Case examples will also be provided throughout presentation to demonstrate application of the principles.
