Description
This course is designed to give pediatric PT’s and OT’s strategies to improve treatment outcomes. These outcomes include: increased postural stability, ROM, attention, social interactions, visual motor coordination, fine motor and gross motor skills. This two-day, intermediate-level course will explore sensory integration and the theory of functional disconnect syndrome, along with ways to incorporate these theories into your treatment sessions.
The following questions will be answered: “How do you determine if it is a sensory processing deficit or a behavioral issue?” and “How do you help a child who “W” sits? Participants will gain knowledge on how to be more objective in the effectiveness of the treatment strategies they use. Multiple in-depth case studies will be used to walk therapists through a progression of therapy strategies used with each child. Strategies on how to provide visual and vestibular stimulation with high muscle tone vs. low muscle tone kids will be presented. Strategies on how to incorporate reflex integration exercises to improve developmental outcomes will also be demonstrated.
This course will include lecture, discussion, and case studies including several videos of treatment sessions. In addition, hands-on lab time and demonstration sessions will be incorporated to allow time for practice of therapy strategies. Therapists from a variety of settings including home health, school, clinics and hospitals would benefit from this course. (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL)
