Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1) Identify at least 2 biomechanical principles for each of the following regions: shoulder, cervical spine and thoracic spine
2) Given a selected dysfunction, apply the biomechanical principles taught in this course in the examination of the shoulder, cervical or thoracic region.
3) Recognize at least 3 indications and 3 contraindications for mechanical evaluation and treatment of the upper body region
4) Identify a differential cluster of at least 3 signs/symptoms defining various cervical spine dysfunctions
5) Identify a cluster of at least 3 signs/symptoms defining selected regional thoracic dysfunctions
6) Identify a cluster of at least 3 signs/symptoms defining selected shoulder dysfunctions
7) Demonstrate the ability to correctly administer at least 1 manual therapy technique for the shoulder, the cervical spine and the thoracic spine regions
8) Demonstrate competence in the utilization of decision-making principles, evidenced-based guidelines, and CPR’s in managing the patient with a selected dysfunction involving the shoulder, the cervical spine or the thoracic spine region.

Description
This course will focus on the common clinical presentation of patients with dysfunction involving the upper body with particular emphasis on the shoulder, thoracic and cervical regions. Assessment and treatment concepts, based on the biomechanical principles of these areas, will be presented and discussed. Case based examples will be utilized to demonstrate pertinent decision-making principles. Structured laboratory sessions will provide instruction in pertinent assessment techniques as well as manual therapy techniques for treatment of selected dysfunction(s) involving the shoulder, the cervical spine or the thoracic region.
