Objectives
Determine patient problem, including but not limited to motor deficits, tone and biomechanical imbalances that would benefit from lower extremity orthotic intervention, based upon examination findings
Select appropriate lower extremity othoses for gait related functional limitations secondary to selected neuromuscular conditions commonly seen by physical therapists.
Generate appropriate lower extremity orthotic prescription that will guide orthotist in fabrication of orthotic device

Description
This course will provide an overview of current trends and myths in orthotics use following stroke, as well as a summary of the evidence regarding lower extremity orthotic management in persons with stroke. This course will review the common kinematic and kinetic pathologies in gait following stroke, and match these with appropriate orthotic interventions. Strategies for effective orthotic prescription and orthotic training/use will also be outlined in the course.
