Objectives
Upon completion of the conference, participants will be able to:
• Identify anatomical and biomechanical risk factors for knee injury in the female athlete.
• Outline critical sex differences in the mechanism and treatment of injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
• Discuss the hip-spine syndrome; provide an update on the current research in this area, and how its relationship plays a role in the treatment of the active female.
• Recognize the interrelationship between nutrition, reproductive function, and bone health (The Female Athlete Triad) in the active female.
• Review up-to-date research related to activity during pregnancy as well as pregnancy-related pelvic pain.
• Discuss the impact of biomechanical changes related to pregnancy and postpartum on maternal activity and function.
• Describe current trends in the surgical and non-surgical management for pelvic floor dysfunction and pelvic organ prolapse.
• Recognize issues impacting the participation of disabled women in activity and sports.
• Discuss rehabilitation management of special populations in women’s health rehabilitation, including bone health.
• Outline psychological issues facing women across the lifespan with regards to musculoskeletal or women’s health conditions.

Description
This course will focus on addressing sports medicine and health care issues surrounding women across their lifespan from adolescence into adulthood and retirement. The course will address concepts surrounding musculoskeletal gender differences in rehabilitation and progressive changes during pregnancy and postpartum that may affect participation in activity and exercise. Lastly, health care issues throughout the female lifespan will be discussed, such as psychological considerations, pelvic floor dysfunction/ prolapse, immunology, and bone health. Interactive workshops will cover key areas to address the examination and treatment of injuries in female athletes, hip/spine connection, peripartum pelvic girdle dysfunction and diastasis recti abdominus, and musculoskeletal considerations during labor and delivery.
