Objectives
Upon the conclusion of this course, the participant will:
Identify factors that contribute to balance dysfunction and falls
Demonstrate assessment of multiple dimensions of balance, mobility, and fall risk
Identify appropriate standardized balance, mobility and fall risk assessment tools based on client functional level
Identify effective interventions to improve balance and mobility and reduce fall risk
Develop a comprehensive balance training and fall risk reduction program for clients with balance dysfunction
Target Audience
This is an introductory level course designed for Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants and Certified Athletic Trainers.

This two-day course provides participants with skills and strategies to address the complex problems of balance dysfunction and falls in geriatric and neurologic clients. Participants will further develop their skills in identifying individuals at risk for falls and conducting a comprehensive evaluation to guide intervention. Evaluation skills based on key risk factors for balance dysfunction and objective outcomes will be emphasized. Evidence-based and best practice intervention strategies provide participants with a variety of skills to address different aspects of balance dysfunction. The course will also focus on utilization of standardized assessment measures and intervention strategies across client functional levels. Evaluation procedures and intervention techniques will be demonstrated and reinforced with hands on practice time and case studies allowing for immediate integration of the material.
