Oncologic treatments
Radiation oncologic treatments
Reconstructive procedures
gain an understanding of the common sequelae and side effects of breast cancer treatments and use this knowledge to safely treat their patients.
be able to evaluate and treat patients with axillary web syndrome, upper quarter soft tissue dysfunction as well as postural and scapular dysfunction following breast cancer treatments.
be able to provide basic and effective lymphedema and infection prevention education to breast cancer patients.

Class Times: 16 hours of instruction are provided in this Breast Cancer Rehabilitation course. Usual class hours are 8:00am – 6:00pm on the first day and 8:00am – 5:00pm on the second day, with one hour for lunch each day. Exact class times will be provided in your confirmation letter. Pre-Requisites: This course is offered to all PT, PTA, OT, COTA, NP, MD, and Massage Therapists*. No prior lymphedema certification is required! *This course is geared toward enhancing the practice and knowledge of Physical and Occupational Therapists treating breast cancer patients; parts of this course may be out of the scope of practice for Massage Therapists. Tuition: $450.00 (includes course handouts); full amount due at time of registration. $100.00 is non-refundable; no refunds will be given in case of cancellation less than 3 weeks before class. Continuing Education Credits (CEUs): 16 Contact hours. CEUs available for Physical, Occupational and Massage Therapists. Contact hours are approved for LANA recertification.

Description
This two-day course provides essential knowledge of outpatient therapeutic approaches in breast cancer care. A comprehensive review of current diagnostic, surgical, radiation, reconstructive and medical oncologic management for breast cancer is included. Special attention is given to the evaluation, differential diagnosis, and treatment of axillary web syndrome (cording) and postural and scapular dysfunction as well as upper-quadrant soft-tissue changes following breast cancer surgery and radiation therapy. An up-to-date review of recent research findings regarding breast cancer-related lymphedema will also be presented. Instruction is provided through lecture, case studies, lab, and digital video presentations. Each day will be divided into two sections: theoretical and hands-on application.
