In today's litigious society, being a great mental health professional is not enough to avoid ethics complaints, licensing board sanctions, and even legal liability. If you work in the field of behavioral health care, you must also understand professional codes of ethics, licensing board regulations, and laws in the governing jurisdiction. It is necessary to understand how these intertwine with clinical practice and what to do when those worlds collide—because they will!
