Description
The foot is one of the most overlooked and undertreated
part of the patient over the age of 65 years.
In patients that reside in a nursing home as long-term
residents or sub-acute stay residents, the primary
focus is usually on more gross problems such as
balance, transfers, and gait without the physical
therapist fully including the patient’s foot problems
in the plan of care. Of course the foot is integral to
addressing the balance, transfer, and gait problems.
The purpose of this course is to present to the
practicing physical therapist and physical therapy
assistant common anatomical changes seen in the
foot as a person ages, how these changes affect
function, and the information necessary to properly
assess and treat the foot.
