Objectives
At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
1.Review neuromuscular control of the shoulder joint complex
2.Classify the mechanical receptors and list their function, location, threshold and response to stimuli
3.Identify evaluation procedures for neuromuscular, proprioception, joint position sense, and kinesthetic testing
4.Recognize theories for return of proprioception following surgery
5.Identify intervention strategies including CKC and OKC exercise protocols
6.Identify and differentiate between stages of functional rehab including goals
7.Review anatomy and biomechanics of the AC joint
8.Identify the mechanisms of injury for the AC joint
9.Identify and differentiate between AC joint injury classifications
10.List and differentiate between phases of nonoperative rehabilitation for AC joint injuries, including goals, precautions, interventions, protection, modalities and ROM, strengthening, neuromuscular reeducation and clinical testing
11.Explain the Davies Resistive Exercise Continuum
12.List precautions during rehabilitation of the patient with AC joint injury following surgical reconstruction
13.Recognize operative management procedures and the primary and secondary fixation of the AC joint
14.List and differentiate between phases of postoperative rehabilitation for AC joint reconstruction, including goals, precautions, interventions, protection, modalities and ROM, strengthening, neuromuscular reeducation and clinical testing
15.Identify subacromial anatomy and related biomechanics and kinematics
16.Identify and differentiate between impingement classifications and stages
17.Identify nonoperative rehabilitation options
18.Differentiate between effective and ineffective uses of corticosteroids
19.List and differentiate between phases on the Nonoperative Secondary Impingement Protocol including impairments and interventions/goals.
20.List and differentiate between phases of Arthroscopic Subacromial Decompression with Distal Clavicle Resection
21.Explain the classification system of rotator cuff tears

Agenda

Description
This course is derived from the textbook by Robert Manske “Postsurgical Orthopedic Sports Rehabilitation Knee & Shoulder” ©2006. The text focuses specifically on post-surgical guidelines for successful rehabilitation of the knee and shoulder for sports patients. Content covers basic concepts related to soft tissue healing, as well as core concepts in sports medicine rehabilitation, all of which lay the groundwork for discussions of specific protocols. Detailed descriptions of the latest post-surgical procedures for various knee and shoulder pathologies equip professionals with essential knowledge needed to recommend the most effective treatment plans.
Module 6: AC Joint Injuries/Rotator Cuff Repair covers chapters 7, 26, 32 through 34.
Chapter 7: Neuromuscular Static and Dynamic Stability of the Shoulder: The Key to Functional Performance
Chapter 26: Rehabilitation after Conservative and Operative Treatment of Acromioclavicular Joint Injuries
Chapter 32: Subacromial Impingement, Acromioplasty, and Subacromial Decompression
Chapter 33: Rehabilitation after Mini-Open and Arthroscopic Repair of the Rotator Cuff
Chapter 34: Rehabilitation after Surgical Treatment of the Long-Head Biceps Tendon
