Be able to select appropriate treatment parameters for using thermal agents for a variety of clinical applications. 4. Know the contraindications for thermal agents. Objectives Weekend B: At the completion of this course, participants will: 1. Understand the basic parameters of electrical stimulation 2. Be able to select appropriate treatment parameters for muscle strengthening and reeducation, pain control, edema control and iontophoresis 3. Be able to select the appropriate electrical stimulation unit to achieve desired clinical outcomes. 4. Know how and when to use high volt, medium frequency, interferential, direct current and iontophoresis.

CEUs / Contact Hours / PDUs A certificate of attendance will be presented to each participant for 30 contact hours for both weekends or 15 contact hours for one weekend. The California Education Connection is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education for CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINERS. Our BOC approved provider number is P2959. The Physical Therapy Board of California recognizes California Education Connection as an approval agency to approve providers offering continuing competency courses in California. The California Board of Occupational Therapy has approved this course for post professional education in the advanced practice area of physical agent modality. Our advanced practice provider number is 10-P1. This course will also satisfy the continuing education requirements (PDUs) for OTRs/COTAs in the State of California. California Education Connection is an AOTA Approved Provider of continuing education.This course is eligible for 3.0 CEUs for both weekends and 1.5 CEUs for one weekend from the AOTA. The AOTA does not endorse specific course content, products, or clinical procedures. In order to qualify for this discount, we must receive all six completed registration forms with the appropriate payment for the five spots. If you want to mail in the completed forms, you must mail all six forms in the same envelope. If you want to fax in the forms, you must fax all six forms at the same time. Please note that there will be no exceptions granted. We must receive everything at once in order to process these registration forms under the group discount policy. Early Registration Deadline The Early Registration deadline is three weeks prior to the start of the course. If your registration is received after the deadline, a $25.00 Late Fee will be automatically applied to the registration fee. Refund and Cancellation Policies California Education Connection reserves the right to cancel this seminar due to an insufficient number of registrants. Under these circumstances, a full refund in the form of a check will be addressed and mailed to the registered participant. All cancellations by registered participant must be dated and submitted in writing. For cancellations received 14 days or more before the seminar date, the registration fee will be returned less a $50.00 administrative fee. Description
This 30-hour program is designed to meet the requirements for occupational therapists to use physical agent modalities in their clinical practice. Additionally, you can explore this interactive tool for a hands-on learning experience. This course will cover the use of both superficial physical agent modalities (SPAMs) and deep physical agent modalities (DPAMs). The course is held over two weekends, each weekend with a total of 15 contact hours of education. Course Description - Weekend A: SPAMs and Ultrasound During this weekend you will learn how to use ultrasound and superficial thermal agents safely and effectively in your clinical practice. The course uses lectures, case studies, participant problem solving and lots of hands-on practice to teach the physical and physiological principles underlying the application of SPAMs and ultrasound and to give you the knowledge and confidence to use them to help patients achieve their functional goals. Course Description - Weekend B: Electrical Stimulation During this weekend focus is on the clinical application of electrical stimulation. As with weekend A, this course uses lectures, case studies, participant problem solving and lots of hands-on practice to teach the physical and physiological principles underlying the application of electrical stimulation and to give you the knowledge and confidence to use electrical stimulation safely and effectively to help patients achieve their functional goals. Ultrasound; superficial physical agent modalities (SPAMs); including hot packs, cold packs, paraffin, fluidotherapy, whirlpool, light and lasers.
