Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 1) Identify specific developmental features in trunk, upper and lower extremities in the typical population. 2) Understand the importance of proper alignment for support and initiation of movement patterns. 3) Comfortably utilize basic assessment techniques for biomechanical alignment and range of motion. 4) Relate assessment findings to problem solve and develop treatment options. 5) Identify contraindications to taping. 6) Be familiar with taping materials including: Leukotape, Hypafix, Kinesio® Tex tape, neoprene, Nustim wrap, Prowrap, Fabrifoam, and latex-free tapes. 7) Understand the principles of taping as an adjunct to treatment for the client with alignment issues. 8) Explain the use of tape as a way to improve neuromuscular re-education through improved alignment in functional activities. 9) Explain skin care and use of tape to clients and families. 10) Become familiar with taping techniques for correction of specific alignment concerns.

This is a 16-hour course equivalent to 1.6 CEUs. CEU approval has been submitted to AOTA and to physical therapy licensing boards or chapters of APTA in the states in which the course is held. Rocky Mountain University has approved this course for credit towards the Transitional DPT or OTD degree programs.
Attendees need to bring: scissors and an atlas. We will practice with each other, so please bring clothing such as a two-piece bathing suit to enhance learning.

Description
This course is designed for physical and occupational therapists working with all ages. The course focuses on the use of static and dynamic taping techniques in the treatment of children and adults with alignment issues and neurologic involvement. Taping techniques involved include the use of rigid strapping tape, Kinesiotape, Velcro patches and elastic straps, neoprene wraps and other options. Review of developmental biomechanics and relation to treatment are also included.
