Objectives
Course Goals: This course is intended to instruct the professional on stroke in women and potentially decrease the severity should stroke occur. Professional Objectives: Identify how many strokes occur per year. Identify where stroke ranks nationally and among women in regard to cause of death. Identify the 4 types of stroke. Identify 3 unique stroke symptoms seen in women. Identify one deficit seen with each area of the brain discussed. Identify 4 stroke risk factors specific to women. Identify 2 things that make recovery different in women. Criteria for Completion: A score of 70% or more is considered passing. Scores of less than 70% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved.

Stroke strikes more women than men but when women suffer a stroke it results in greater mortality and morbidity. The goal of this presentation is to discuss how we can prevent stroke in women and potentially decrease the severity should stroke occur. Education is key to turn these statistics around.
