#335 Intervention for Children with Neurological and Neuromotor Involvements

Motivations, Inc.

Format(s):   Live Seminars
Discipline(s):   Physical Therapy / Occupational Therapy
Contact Hours:   16
Registration Fee:   $495

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Integrate the child and family involvement into goal setting for a transfer of skills in the natural environment based on motivation for children with hemiplegia.
2. Express client-centered approaches and outcomes measurements such as goal attainment scaling as a means of measuring incremental progress in a specialized population.
3. Demonstrate behavioral theoretical background to motor learning such as repetitive task training for cortical reorganization (Hamer-Rohrer et al., 2012) to overcome muscle weakness or impaired function.
4. Perform components of clinical reasoning for the selection of dosage, timing and
treatment of pediatric hemiplegia using Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT). 5. Demonstrate the effects of knowledge translation by critically examining evidence based practice to then apply into clinical practice for children with hemiplegia.

Target Audience
Physical and Occupational Therapists and Assistants

Description
This presentation will focus on evidence based practices in the treatment of pediatric hemiplegia secondary to neurological insults such as stroke, cerebral palsy, IVH, hemispherectomy, traumatic brain injury or hydrocephaly. The audience will experience the effects of knowledge translation by critically examining evidence based practice to then apply into clinical practice using a client/family based approach. Attendees will learn the concepts of multi-component approaches and clinical reasoning for the selection of traditional and contemporary interventions. Specifically, audience will learn how to assess, select skilled interventions and measurement outcomes for the pediatric population. The attendee will learn how to perform Goal Attainment Scaling as well as contemporary skilled interventions such as CIMT. (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL)
