At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Discriminate between the motor behavior (ie., motor control, motor learning, and motor development) theories and model that support the task-oriented approach to persons after stroke.
2. Analyze the evaluation framework for the task-oriented approach and identify specific assessments that are consistent with the approach.
3. Distinguish general treatment principles for the task-oriented approach and their application to persons after stroke.
4. Outline the implications of neuroscience studies of plasticity and constraint induced movement therapy to activity based interventions in stroke rehabilitation
5. Analyze effect practice opportunities for stroke survivors to recover motor, cognitive, and participation skills.
6. Distinguish the basis of interventions designed to enhance stroke survivors’ potential to achieve maximal recovery.
7. Apply principles of activity analysis and synthesis when designing interventions for stroke survivors.
8. Differentiate between principles of evidence-based practice and criteria of evaluating research
9. Discriminate the evidence testing the effectiveness of the approaches in stroke rehabilitation

Module 2: covers the task-orientated approach, activity-based interventions in stroke rehabilitation and approaches to motor control dysfunction.
Module 3: covers trunk control, balance impairments and vestibular rehabilitation for stroke patients
Module 4: covers upper extremity function and management and rehabilitation
technologies to promote upper limb recovery
Module 5: covers edema control, splinting applications and functional mobility
Module 6: covers gait awareness, management of visual and visuospatial impairments and the impact of neurobehavioral deficits on ADLs.
Module 7: covers treatment of cognitive-perceptual deficits, speech and language deficits and enhancing the performance of ADLs after a stroke.
Module 8: covers parenting after stroke, driving and community mobility, dysphagia and sexual function and intimacy.
Module 9 covers seating and wheeled mobility, home evaluation and modifications, adaption to one-handed management of the environment and leisure participation after stroke.

Course Goals: This course is intended to instruct the student, through self-paced study, on the task-orientated approach and activity-based intervention in stroke rehabilitation and on approaches to motor control dysfunction.
