Objectives
At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to Describe how medical yoga, using the standardized PYT algorithm and conceptual model for patient care, can improve health care and its delivery in the US through its holistic evaluative methodology. Apply evidence-based methodology for incorporating the PYT medical yoga model into current rehabilitation programs. Evaluate existing yoga programs for content, safety, and validity. Identify a minimum of 5 professional yoga therapy methods for use in shoulder rehabilitation or injury prevention. Describe safe application and appropriate use of yoga for the shoulder complex through understanding indications and contraindications. Identify 2 PYT yoga pre-postures that allow for concurrent evaluation and therapeutic intervention in shoulder rehabilitation. Analyze the conceptual model in a real time case study format in evaluation and management of a common shoulder diagnosis. Describe how the simultaneous application of yoga, Ayurveda, and spinal kinematics can influence and improve overall systemic health and wellbeing. Identify the ways spinal osteokinematics and arthrokinematics can effectively operationalize the holistic conceptual model of evaluation and management in the spine. Analyze 12 yogic postures and their symbiotic effect on spinal functional mobility, GI motility, and overall health. Evaluate how the laws of spinal arthrokinematic biomechanical theory refine prescriptive yoga posture alignment in the 21st century through the application of compression and torque in the spine. Describe the epidemiology of and risk factors for epicondylitis based on the latest evidence in order to understand how medical therapeutic yoga can be used for injury prevention in the elbow. Compare and contrast conventional medical management of epicondylitis with the therapeutic paradigm used in medical Analyze a case study of epicondylitis following the patient through acute and subacute phases using the therapeutic evaluative conceptual model for medical therapeutic yoga management.

Target Audience
Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Assistants, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, and Athletic Trainers.

Description
This Seminar-On-Demand reviews the latest evidence in injury prevalence in sport, injury prevention, and management of the shoulder complex and gives the clinician the tools necessary for immediate intervention. Clinicians also learn to critically analyze the evaluative paradigm necessary to use yoga for achieving safer physiological spinal motion, improved GI function, and overall health in both medical and wellness based settings. The course discusses spinal kinematic theory and how it changes the traditional approach to, and increases safety in, teaching yoga for spinal mobility.
