This video course looks at the education process necessary for decisions on alternate forms of nutrition and hydration(ANH). Speech pathologists and dietitians often are the providers of education to families and staff in situations where the patient is unable to maintain their needs by eating, and require some assistance – whether short or long term.
There are misperceptions about ANH that may need to be addressed with families and staff. The decision-making is often stressful for families. It is important that whatever decision is made, it is an educated, informed decision. Various advance directives have specific situations identified and options for patients to choose. A variety of directives is reviewed and educational tools available provided.
This Seminar-On-Demand is 4 contact hours in length (check your state’s approval status in the state specific course catalog for your profession).
