Description

One of the Few Hands-On Interactive Seating Courses!

There are an estimated 1.4 million Americans utilizing wheelchairs in the United States to achieve improved independence. For health care workers, the task of evaluating the client, determining needs, selecting the most appropriate equipment, and, when applicable, troubleshooting to improve a client?s fit and function can oftentimes be intimidating. Often, we are faced with clients who present with notable orthopedic issues, deformities, and/or asymmetries coupled with limited funding or financial resources, making our intervention much more challenging.

This one-day seminar was produced by Dr. Kirsten Davin, the creator of the long running seminar, Let's Roll! The Art of Performing Seating and Mobility Evaluations, which has reached over 9,500 therapists across the United States. Hands-on! Wheelchair Seating and Positioning is designed to provide health care professionals and therapists with a hands-on, working knowledge of wheelchair seating and positioning systems. Participants will be able to identify postural issues and deformities which may be present within a client and incorporate those considerations into the creation of a custom seating system. Hands-on, interactive techniques will be implemented as attendees will personally be adapting, carving, and creating mock seating systems and, in the process, gain valuable knowledge that can be implemented immediately in clinic. Attendees will learn about the benefits of pressure mapping and have the opportunity to experience pressure mapping first-hand. This is a valuable course for anyone who faces challenging seating and positioning issues in clinic. Attendees will leave with a multitude of tangible knowledge, tips, and cost saving techniques which can be put to immediate use. For those interested in sitting for RESNA's Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) or Seating and Mobility Specialist (SMS) examinations, this course is an absolute must!
