Objectives
The participant will be able to :
1. Define and explain what is meant by clumsiness, developmental coordination disorder and developmental dyspraxia.
2. Explain the proposed underlying causes of praxis problems.
3. Identify the characteristics of the child with praxis problems.
4. Identify the components of an adequate evaluation for the child including standardized and non-standardized methods.
5. Discuss the principles used in the organization of a treatment program for children with praxis problems.
6. Discuss the levels of adaptive responses that need to be identified prior to the planning of a treatment program.
7. Define and explain how to use the vestibular, proprioceptive and tactile systems in the treatment of children with praxis problems.

Description
The course is designed to familiarize physical and occupational therapists with the evaluation and treatment of children with clumsiness( developmental incoordination disorder). Additionally, the newer concepts of motor control and motor development will be discussed in relationship to other neurophysiologic treatments. Additionally, treatment techniques and suggestions for the classroom utilizing an integrated approach will be presented.
