Description
Teach your patients the six BEST exercises to prevent osteoporosis. Funded by a NIH grant, the University of Arizona BEST Team of researchers identified the most effective exercises for preventing osteoporosis and improving bone mineral density in postmenopausal women. Instruct your patients in training protocols, specific programming and motivational strategies that will be the BEST for optimal bone health. This course is offered in cooperation with Desert Southwest Fitness. 203 pages.
Course Length: 8.0 contact hours
Course Goals:
This course is designed to give the student comprehensive overview of factors related to bone health with a specific emphasis on exercise for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. The course is based on the University of Arizona Bone Estrogen Strength Training (BEST) study that demonstrated that weightbearing and resistance exercise significantly improved bone mineral density at skeletal sites at risk for fracture in postmenopausal women.
