Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the etiology and mechanism of spinal cord injuries.
2. Describe complications of spinal cord injury, and discuss prevention and intervention strategies.
3. Identify key early intervention techniques and functional progression strategies related to ADL and mobility skill acquisition.
4. Identify common psychosocial issues present in rehabilitation, with discussion of communication and adjustment strategies and appropriate coping skills.
5. Identify functional potentials and expectations of each level of SCI.
6. Identify life long issues people with SCI encounter.


Target Audience
Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants who are involved in the treatment of patients with neuromuscular diagnoses.

This course will focus on the rehabilitation of the person with spinal cord injuries. The participants will learn concepts of spinal cord injury management, in order to become more effective members of the spinal cord injury rehabilitation team and facilitate the patient’s return to a lifestyle that is as healthy, fulfilling and as independent as possible.
