Course Goals: This course is intended to instruct the professional through a self-paced study on the rehabilitation of shoulder capsular and ligament stabilization procedures.
At the end of this course the professional will be able to:
*Recognize the glenoid based T-capsular shift surgical procedure used in anterior capsulolabral reconstructions.
*Identify structures that make up the glenohumeral joint stability including rotator cuff musculature, scapulothoracic muscles, and biceps brachii (long head).
*Recognize weekly range of motion goals after an ACLR.
*List guidelines for rehabilitation after anterior-capsulolabral reconstruction for phase I, II, III and IV including goals, restrictions, therapeutic exercises, and concerns.
*List guidelines to follow for Phase I, II, III and IV rehab following a multidirectional instability capsular shift procedure including goals, treatment, and criteria for advancement.
*Recognize the anatomy, histology and function of the capsulolabral complex.
*Identify restraints to glenohumeral translations including anterior, posterior, inferior and superior translations.
*List rehabilitation guidelines for Bankart repair in phase I, II, III, IV and V including goals, treatment plans and milestones for progression.
*Identify methods of thermal application for thermal energy.
*Identify six key factors to consider when designing the rehabilitation program following TACS.
*List guidelines for a rehabilitation program in Phase I, II, III, and IV following a TACS for individuals with acquired laxity including goals and exercises.
*Recognize exercises used in the Thrower’s Ten Program.
*List guidelines for a rehabilitation program in Phase I, II, III and IV following TACS for individuals with atraumatic congenital instability including goals, precautions, strengthening, ROM, and mobilizations.
*Recognize guidelines for a rehabilitation program in Phase I, II, III, and IV following a TACS with Type II SLAP repair including goals and exercise progression.
*Recognize anatomy of the labrum.
*Identify mechanisms of injuries for SLAP lesions.
*Identify 11 special tests used to help diagnose SLAP lesions including O’Brien’s active compression test.
*Identify surgical treatment of SLAP lesions Types I to VII.
*List guidelines for the Phase I, II, III, and IV rehab of the Gundersen Lutheran Sports Medicine Rehabilitation Protocol for SLAP Type II repairs including sling use, PROM, AROM, strengthening, and vocational requirements.
