Course Goals: This course is intended to instruct the professional through a self-paced study on the screening for endocrine disease, metabolic disease, immunologic disease, and cancer.
At the end of this course the professional will be able to:
*Differentiate between neuromusculoskeletal and systemic signs and symptoms of endocrine dysfunction.
*Recognize and differentiate between clinical signs and symptoms of diabetes insipidus, inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone,and acromegaly.
*Recognize and differentiate between clinical signs and symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome and adrenal insufficiency.
*Recognize clinical signs and symptoms of a goiter,thyroiditis, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism.
*Identify clinical signs and symptoms of thyroid carcinoma, hyperparathyroidism, and hypoparathyroidism.
*Recognize 4 types of insulin and insulin actions.
*Recognize clinical symptoms of life-threatening glycemic states including DKA, HHS, and hypoglycemia insulin shock.
*Differentiate between clinical signs and symptoms of metabolic syndrome, metabolic alkalosis, and metabolic acidosis.
*Identify Bone Mineral Density T-Scores.
*Recognize and differentiate between clinical signs and symptoms of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, and Paget’s Disease.
*Differentiate between AIDS, Kaposi’s Sarcoma, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, TB and HIV Neurologic Disease.
*Differentiate between clinical signs and symptoms of Type I, Type 2, Type 3, and Type IV hypersensitivity.
*Differentiate between myofascial pain syndrome and fibromyalgia.
*Recognize clinical signs and symptoms and differential diagnosis of fibromyalgia syndrome.
*Identify clinical signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
*List American Rheumatism Association Criteria for classification of rheumatoid arthritis.
*List and differentiate between clinical signs and symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, and spondyloarthropathy.
*Recognize clinical signs and symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis.
*Identify and differentiate between multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barre syndrome and myasthenia gravis.
*Identify 3 tests used to elicit signs and symptoms of myasthenia gravis including the ice pack, rest and sleep tests.
*Recognize cancer statistics and nonmodifiable and modifiable risk factors for cancer.
*Differentiate between the three major types of cancer: carcinomas, sarcomas and blood-borne cancers.
*Recognize pathways of cancer metastases.
*Recognize signs and symptoms of metastases within the integumentary, musculoskeletal, neurologic, pulmonary and hepatic systems.
*Recognize 9 early warning signs of cancer.
*Identify integumentary manifestations including Sweet’s syndrome.
*Differentiate between skin cancers including basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas and malignant melanomas.
*Recognize clinical signs and symptoms of cauda equine syndrome.
*Differentiate between lytic vs blastic bone lesions.
*Recognize characteristics of hypercalcemia from skeletal metastases.
*Identify and differentiate between clinical signs and symptoms of soft tissue sarcomas, osteosarcomas, Ewing’s Family of Tumors, chondrosarcomas, and osteoid osteomas.
*Recognize clinical signs and symptoms of brain tumors and spinal cord tumors.
*Identify and differentiate between clinical signs and symptoms of acute and chronic leukemias, multiple myelomas, Hodgkin’s disease, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and AIDS-NHL.
